Abstract:

Compilation of materials relating to Bustamante's work and possibly prepared under his direction, as follows: anonymous diary, Mexico, 1847, on events in Mexico, including the activities of García Torres, owner of the Monitor Republicano, during the invasion under General Winfield Scott; entries for May 10-September 21, 1847, and background data extending from December, 1844. Excerpts from the diary of Juan Antonio Rivera, chaplain of the Hospital de Jesús Nazareno in Mexico City; pleas for governmental support of the Jesuits, with printed copy of a presidential decree to this effect, June 22, 1843; draft of an article on the death of General Morelos; necrology of Dr. Santiago, Mexico City, 1845; official communication on agricultural-export policy, November, 1844.

Draft of an article on freedom of the press, n.d.; articles by Bustamante on the Count of Aranda's proposal for establishment of a monarchy in Mexico, 1833; reprint of an article by Father Servando Mier on Mexican federation, December 13, 1823; and a printed leaflet, prepared by Bustamante, reviewing the lives of certain emperors of Mexico, 1361-1502, based on old manuscripts used by Lorenzo Boturini.
